Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant David.
David Kenneth Viggers was born in LaGrange, Illinois, on October 4, 1962, to Kenneth and Barbara (Dillberg) Viggers. He received the gift of Holy Baptism as an infant, was confirmed in the Christian faith, and fed the life-giving body and blood of Jesus. On August 17, 1985, David was united in holy matrimony to Linda Neff, and blessed with 39 years of married life together. God also blessed them with the gift of children, Victoria, Joshua, and Zachary.
In 1980, David graduated from Metamora High School and went on to graduate from United States Military Academy, West Point in 1984. After 21 years in the United States Army and Iowa Army National Guard, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. David was an officer with the Des Moines Police Department for 17 years. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, in St. Louis in 2016. He served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt, Iowa, from 2016 until entering the Church Triumphant, on the day of his passing. David was also active in the Odebolt American Legion, OAK Ministerial Association and the Odebolt Betterment Community. On December 4th, David fell asleep in the Lord, and was brought into heaven to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.
Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Linda Viggers of Odebolt, IA; beloved children, Victoria (Christian) Van Brunt of Morgan, UT, Joshua Viggers Palega of Seattle, WA, and Rev. Zachary (Alyssa) Viggers of Gillette, WY; seven grandchildren: Norah, Lucy, Theodore, Keira, Emmett, Luke, and Jude; father, Kenneth (Linda) Viggers of Cedar Rapids, IA; siblings: Timothy (Kristi) Viggers of Metamora, IL, Keith (Kris) Viggers of Plymouth, MN, Judi (Jerry) Rash of Weirton, WV, Heather Clevenger of Batavia, OH; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, a host of friends, and the saints of Trinity.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Viggers; and nephew Gabriel Viggers.
The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother David.

Condolences
Alleluia! Christ is risen! ”
I am deeply saddened to hear of David's passing. He lived a life of faith, dedication, and service. Through his distinguished military career and devoted pastorate, he was kind and committed to faith, family, and flock from his early days in LaGrange, Illinois.
David's journey through life was marked by significant achievements and unwavering faith. His service in the United States Army and the Des Moines Police Department demonstrated his dedication to protecting and serving others. His years as a pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt were a testament to his deep faith and love for his community.
David's legacy will live on in addition to his wife, Linda, his three children, Victoria, Joshua, and Zachary, and his seven grandchildren. His memory will also be cherished by the many friends and extended family members who were blessed to know him.
May you find comfort in the knowledge that David has fought the good fight and is now at peace, resting in Jesus' arms and awaiting the resurrection of the dead. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy,
Rev. Dr. Keith Haney”
Our hearts break for you all during this time. Knowing Dave was a man of strong faith, we can be comforted he's sitting on high with all the Angels of the Lord. May the Lord give you strength, peace and comfort in the days ahead.
Your brother & sister in Christ,”
We lovingly wrap our arms around you. Just such a shock that Dave is gone. He was one of a kind! He lived life vibrantly—always making people laugh! My family will never forget the funny song he made up about “Wheeling West Virginia” one time when he drove to visit us. We are now making the 14 hour drive to Iowa which we have made many times over the years to be with you and the rest of our family to celebrate life! This time we celebrate you, Dave and the amazing life that you led while you were here. You touched so many and made a difference living an example of God’s tremendous love for everyone! You were called home to glory too early for us but perfect in God’s timing. You told me once that you wanted us to promise to have a celebration at your passing and not be sad. I cry easily, so that is a Big ask but I am smiling when I think of seeing you again when God calls me home. We love you, Dave! ?? You’ll forever be in our hearts! Here’s to seeing you again! ?”
I am so sorry for your loss—I will never forget Mr. Viggers’ kindness towards my family growing up. I remember most clearly how great his laugh was and how easy it was to laugh with him. He and your family are all very fondly in my thoughts, prayers and stitched into the fabric of the people and places that made me the person I am. Bless you all, and with all the love in the world, Jennifer M. Arnold”
Hope this little memory of mine helps you all to know your dad made everlasting impacts on more people than you're probably aware of. ”
I’m sorry for your loss. I was on DMPD with Dave. Great guy. Too young to be gone. ”
