 Marvin Theodore Jensen, age 84, of Battle Creek, IA, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at his residence, of Battle Creek, IA. 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 20, 2013, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa with Rev. Donald Winterrowd and Rev. Randy Cormeny officiating. Interment will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery, with military rites will be conducted by the United States Army Reserve. A Visitation will be held with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Christensen- Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove. Marvin was called to his Heavenly home on December 16, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. The eldest son of 5 children brought into this world by Martin S. and Concordia L.M. (Schwenk) Jensen, Marvin was born June 22, 1929, in Ida Grove Iowa. Where he was baptized, confirmed, and graduated from High School. He married Lois Elaine Riessen on August 29, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. They lived a full life in the Ida Grove-Battle Creek area, where they became parents to 4 daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Davis of Correctionville Iowa, Bonita, called to her heavenly home as an infant, Diana Sexton of Holstein Iowa, Debra Jensen of Battle Creek Iowa, and 1 son Gary A. (Reta) Jensen of Cherokee Iowa.

Most of his life, Marvin was a carpenter, working for Green Bay Lumber Company COOP Lumber Yard, as well as several other business’s. He also served his country in the Army, Iowa National Guard for 26 & ½ years including full time active duty during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Marvin continued to serve actively in the American Legion Post 364 as Sergeant of Arms of the Color Guard. Even after retirement Marvin enjoyed helping several local businesses.

Marvin was a very active member of the community, heading several committees at church, a volunteer ambulance driver/EMT. He enjoyed sweet corn picking to help provide for the community every summer.

Even up to the time of his death, Marvin enjoyed working with wood, making all sorts of toys & trinkets for his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, as well as many friends & neighbors. When his own children had found their own way in life, Marvin with his wife Lois opened their home as a daycare to many children who were all welcomed and loved as extended grandchildren.

Survivors that will cherish the memories of Marvin’s great love, include his wife of 59 years, Lois Elaine (Riessen), Cindy (Jerry) Davis, Gary (Reta) Jensen, Diana Sexton  & Debra Jensen, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Sheryl (Tony) Helfrecht, and son Harrison, of Columbia, Mo., Jeremie Davis and fiancée Helen, of Prosper, Texas, Greg Davis of Battle Creek, Iowa, Bonita (Kyle) Hansen and sons Austin and Dylan of Ida Grove, Iowa, Shannon Jansen and sons Tristan and Quintin of Aurelia, Iowa, Travis Jensen and special friend Jessica and sons Carter, and Bryden and daughter  Alexus, of Inwood, Iowa, Nicki (Aric) Davis and daughter Cameryn of Omaha, NE., Bryan Wilcke of Kansas City, Mo., Michael Sexton of Danbury Iowa, Brothers, Floyd Jensen of Corona, Calif., Roger (Ardis) Jensen of Iowa Parks, Texas, Brother-in-law  Ronald Riessen of Battle Creek, Iowa, Sister-in-law JoAnn Riessen of    Mapleton, Iowa, along with many nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors, and special adopted (daycare) grandchildren

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Martin & Concordia Jensen, his daughter Bonita Jensen, his twin brother Melvin Jensen, and his sister Elvera Hayward, 2 Brothers-in-laws Donald Hayward, & Raymond Reitz. 3 Sisters-in-laws Alberta Reitz, Sally Jensen, Sheryll Riessen, and 2 nieces Bonnie Hayward & Vicki Iversen.

His love for family was evident by all the lives he has touched and those that often stop in to visit. Marvin was well known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and his endless supply of stories & jokes.
