George Alfred Weir was born May 15, 1941, to Alfred and Edna (Clark) Weir in Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada. George was the oldest of his parents’ five children including Louise, Rick, Linda, and Brian. In the early nineteen-fifties, the family migrated to the United States, settling in Iowa.

In 1959, George met Sandra Sharkey. The couple was married on June 13, 1960. Together they had five children: Alan, Patricia, Georgina, Kevin, and Melanie. George and Sandra resided in the Ida Grove area for much of their lives.

After working in various occupations, George settled into what would become a lengthy career in transportation. For a time, he worked for Midwest Continental before beginning his tenure with the Schuster Company. He loved working for the Schuster Company and spent over twenty years with them before his retirement.

In addition to mowing and yardwork, George’s hobbies included attending auctions and garage sales. Earlier in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps and became an avid horseman. Like his father, George had a great passion for the western lifestyle. This was evidenced by his participation in rodeos, horseshows, and parades. George spent endless hours enjoying old westerns on television.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Edna Weir; his wife, Sandra (Sharkey) Weir; Children: Georgina and Kevin Weir; Brother, Rick Weir; Sisters: Louise (Jack) Potter and Linda (Frank) Peterson.

He is survived by his children: Alan (Mary) Weir, Patricia (Paul) Hobbs, and Melanie (James) Duven; Grandchildren: Jess, Nichole, Aaron, Mandi, Brandi, Amber, Cody, Kyle, Kelsey, Brindi, and Brayson; Great-Grandchildren: Halie, Blake, Alex, Emmalynn, Alaya, Lucas, Jayden, Jarryn, Dalton, Kaleb, Bianca, Callea, Camyrn, Kaitlyn, and Caydence; Nieces and Nephews: Rick, Matt, Tina, Brian, James, Scott, Angie, Mike, Jeff and Jim; along with special friend of his heart, Dianna Johnson.
