Randall “Randy” David Cormeny was born at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma to Robert Allen and Reba Myrth (Smith) Cormeny. Randy grew up loving the outdoors and hunting and fishing with his father, passions he enjoyed throughout his life with the people he loved.
Graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1975, Randy worked hard wherever opportunity took him. While working at a summer job, he met his future wife, Linda Rowland. The couple married on January 5, 1977, in the Sunnyside Nazarene Church.
Randy advanced professionally to auditor and district manager for convenience stores near Gillett, Arkansas. Through a wonderful neighbor, Randy was invited to the Lutheran Church. This is where the Lord worked through him and Randy received his call to ministry.
He faithfully served congregations in Chariton, Iowa; Morrilton, Arkansas; Ulm, Arkansas; Melcher-Dallas, Iowa; rural Germantown, Iowa; Battle Creek, Iowa and as vacancy pastor in several others. He was known for his compassion and his ability to introduce people to Jesus Christ through his storytelling and sense of humor.
Randy was often found lending a hand with various community projects. He served as a fireman and chaplain for the Melcher-Dallas Fire Department and chaplain for the ISU Taekwondo Club.
In addition to his pastoral work, Randy was an accomplished martial artist and author. He wrote and published two novels inspired by his love of martial arts. Holding black belts in Judo, Jujitsu, and a third-degree (3rd Dan) black belt in Taekwondo, he taught martial-arts and self-defense classes from 1978 to the present. His classes fostered discipline and confidence in his students, and led many to the church.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Reba Cormeny; and his younger brother, John Cormeny.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Linda (Rowland) Cormeny of Battle Creek, IA; children, Christina (Cormeny) McDaniel of Davenport, IA, Robert Cormeny of Iowa City, IA, and David Cormeny of St. Charles, IA; his five cherished grandchildren: Caleb, Joshua, Hailey, Sophia, and Elijah; siblings, Richard Cormeny and Mary Ann (Cormeny) Larkan.
He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for others, and the joy and humor he brought into the lives of those around him.SERVICES
