Russell C. Brown, age 90, of Odebolt, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Odebolt Specialty Care, of Odebolt, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 3, 2016 at the United Methodist Church of Odebolt, Iowa. The Reverend Ken Miller will officiate, with committal services following at the Odebolt Cemetery, of Odebolt, Iowa. Military Rites will be conducted by the Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion, of Odebolt, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2016, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Russell C. Brown, the son of Clyde and Kathryn (Jungert) Brown and twin to his sister Ruth, was born on September 19, 1926, in Carroll, Iowa. In 1941 the family relocated to a farm purchased through the FHA five miles north of Kiron, Iowa.

Russell attended school and graduated with the class of 1944, from Odebolt High School. In November of 1944 Russell was drafted into the United States Army.  He received basic training at Camp Roberts and was stationed overseas in Okinawa, Russell was part of the first contingent to go into Japan after peace was declared.  He was honorably discharged in September of 1946.

In 1948, he started farming on a farm near his parent’s farm where Russell and his father would work together to help each other get the work done. Russell retired from farming in the eighties but remained on the farm until November of 2005 when he moved into the Odebolt Specialty Care of Odebolt, Iowa. He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Odebolt, Iowa. Russell belonged to Roose Post #313 of the American Legion of Odebolt, and was a Farm Beau member. He enjoyed farming and watching T.V.  A devoted son and brother, Russell loved his family and would travel to visit them.

He is survived by his sister, Ruth and her husband Leslie Friedrichsen of Odebolt, Iowa; three nephews, Gerald and his wife Deborah Friedrichsen of Omaha, Nebraska, Bruce Friedrichsen of Palm Dessert of California, and William and his wife Connie Friedrichsen of Fort Collins, Colorado; five great nephews, Nicholas and his wife Farah Friedrichsen, Jason and his wife Anne Friedrichsen, Jared and his wife Cindy Friedrichsen, Joseph Friedrichsen, Peter and his wife Victoria Friedrichsen, extended family and friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Kathryn Brown; and numerous aunts and uncles.
