Dennis Rohlk, age 58, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at the CHI Health Lakeside Hospital of Omaha, Nebraska.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2017 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2017 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Dennis Eugene Rohlk was born on November 25, 1958, in Ida Grove, Iowa to Wilbur and Marian (Grayson) Rohlk. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1977. After graduation, he attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa for two years studying Broadcasting. Dennis went on to continue his education at Northwest Missouri State. He then returned to Iowa Central Community College to teach Broadcast Studies and work as jazz producer at KTRP Radio.
Dennis decided he wanted a change of pace and started farming for several years. While he was farming he also worked for Jasper Pork and J&L Pork. Dennis later had to retire from farming and the hog business due to his illness.
Dennis loved nature. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed playing his guitar, crossword puzzles, reading his favorite Sherlock Holmes novels, listening to audio books, and liked watching TV mysteries and reading about them.
Left to cherish his memories include his life partner Lisa Dose of Ida Grove, Iowa; sons Aaron Rohlk of Chicago, Illinois and Alex Rohlk of Sioux City, Iowa; siblings Darwin (Lori) Rohlk of Schleswig, Iowa; Laurie (Steve) Jones of Ida Grove, Iowa; Travis (Lisa) Rohlk of Springfield, South Dakota; and Tracey (Kelly) Rohlk of Ida Grove, Iowa as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Marian Rohlk; and a sister in infancy Deanne Rohlk.
