Florence Marie “Flo” Wunschel, the daughter of John and Clara (Bicksler) Miller, was born on March 3, 1927, in Ida Grove, Iowa. Florence grew up on the family farm near Arthur, Iowa and attended school at Richland #3 in Sac County.

On October 18, 1945, Florence married the love of her life Marvin Raymond Wunschel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home on a farm in Ida Grove. They were blessed with five children: Karen, Rodney, Diane, Roger and Lynn.

Flo’s favorite things were going to any sporting events that her children and grandchildren were involved in. She never missed a game and enjoyed keeping her own stats. Traveling the U.S. in their RV, fondly known as “Honey”, was where she loved to be. Their goal was to travel all 50 states and her children believed they did accomplish that. One of Flo’s favorite places to take her grandchildren was Lake View. Flo would stay busy tending to her big garden, playing cards, and putting puzzles together. She also made hundreds of quilts for all the family to cherish and enjoy.

In 2014 Marv and Flo moved to Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Ida Grove. They were still able to attend their grandchildren’s sporting events, played cards and bingo, and she embroidered tons of quilt blocks and tea towels for family and friends. The couple were married for 69 years before Marv’s passing.

Her family used to joke about how Flo’s picture was in the newspaper all the time for all the volunteer projects that she was involved in. Flo was active in the blood drive, Horn Auxiliary, was a Hospice volunteer, 4-H leader, and a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society just to name a few. Flo was named the Queen for the 125th Anniversary of Ida Grove, something she was very proud of. She was always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed it.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Karen (Roger) Bumann, Diane (Mason) Fleenor, Roger (Timi) Wunschel and Lynn (Troy) Hare all of Ida Grove, IA; 14 grandchildren: Michelle (Nick) Pilos, Marcia (Randy West) Bumann, Megan (Brad) Lehman, Brandy (Dave) Jensen, Brook (Andy) Boeckman, Jimmy Fleenor, Brittany (Luke Slade) Fleenor, Nick Wunschel, Keller Wunschel, Wyatt Wunschel, Marissa (Colton) Skirvin, Mandi (Dalton Ver Beek) Hare, Bailey (Brett Greenwood) Hare and Kade Hare; 18 grandchildren: Aris and Athan Pilos, Haylee & Brylee Lehman, Carter, James and Carly Jensen, Brooklyn, Brianna, Brody, Evan and Brynn Boeckman, Clara Fleenor, Calvin, Kavian and Braylyn Childress, Sutton and Jaxon Skirvin; brother-in-law Everett (Judy) Wunschel; and sister-in-law Vera Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings; son Rodney Wunschel; grandson Seth Wunschel; and grandson-in-law Ryan Grell.

“Florence babysat me occasionally & I remember playing on their farm, going to the pool, & our many camping trips. I got to know "Flossie" & Marv quite well from them being in my parents Card Club. In later years, they traveled together. I admired Florence & thought she was one of the hardest working women I ever met. She always smiled! Rest in Peace & sympathy to the entire family. Teresa”

“I will always remember her carefree demeanor and beautiful smile.
Whenever asked how her day was going and how she was doing she would reply "Good gotta be."
She would chuckle and enjoy drinking her sweet tea. I looked forward to that every evening at supper time..very sweet lady who will be missed greatly!”
