Donna Fay Groth, the daughter of Irwin and Bernice (Backhaus) Bruhn, was born on August 24, 1929, on the family farm outside of Mapleton, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa. Donna attended school in Mapleton and graduated from Mapleton High School with the class of 1947.

After graduation she helped on the family farm. On September 19, 1948, Donna was united in marriage to Orville H. Groth in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple settled down on a farm south of Battle Creek, Iowa and welcomed children Ronald, Roger, Linda, and Dianne.

Donna enjoyed being a farm wife and homemaker. She liked raising chickens and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. In her spare time Donna could be found with her cross stitch or canning the bounty of her garden. After Orville passed away in 1998, Donna stayed on the farm for the next 16 years before relocating to assisted living at Willow Dale in Battle Creek.

A faithful member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Donna was active in Ladies Aid. She was also involved in the Battle Creek Women’s Club and the ISI Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children: Ronald (Roberta) Groth of Metamora, IL, Roger (Phyllis) Groth of Ida Grove, IA, Linda (Bill) Groth-Clark of Omaha, NE, Dianne (David) Heuvelmans of Waukesha, WI; grandchildren: Robert Groth, Rachel (Joseph Carrigan) Groth, Joel (Amanda) Groth, Jerry (Amanda) Groth, David Groth, and Dennis Groth; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Jace, Jordan, Alissa Groth, and one on the way; extended family and friends.
