Lucille Marie Sievert, the seventh of nine children of Antone and Clarissa Ehrig, was born on June 26, 1930, in Danbury, Iowa. Lucille attended country school through eighth grade before she began helping on her family’s farm. In her early 20’s, Lucille moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked as a telephone operator. In 1958, she attended modeling school in Phoenix, Arizona.

On February 20, 1962, Lucille married Melvin Sievert in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa.  The couple was blessed with five children: Terry, Barb, Paul, Donna, and LaVonna. Lucille stayed home and raised their children in Ida Grove. When her husband died in 1971, Lucille returned to work as a house cleaner and then earned her certificate as a CNA, working at Morningside Care Center for the better part of 20 years. She moved to Temple, Texas, in 2004 to be closer to family.

Lucille was surrounded by music her entire life. She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing songs with her children. She loved listening and dancing to the music of her family’s band, Next to Kin. Later in life, she enjoyed volunteering at the elementary school where she helped children learn to read. The children loved her; you could not walk past “Grandma” in the halls without giving her a hug.

Lucille was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. In Temple, Texas, she was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church where she enjoyed being part of the quilting club.

Left to embrace her memory include her sister and brother-in-law Clarissa and Merle Schumann of Ida Grove, IA; her brother-in-law Vernon Barkley of Phoenix, AZ; her children Barb (Chris) Goss of Thornton, CO, Paul Sievert of Temple, TX, Donna (James) Schneiders of Kenai, AK, and LaVonna Constance of Temple, TX; 7 grandchildren; a great grandson, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Antone (1958) and Clarissa (1969); husband Melvin Sievert (1971); son Terry (2002); brothers Edgar (1971), Cyril (1998), Leo (1974), Rusty (2006), and Chuck (2014); sisters Rita Skou (1997) and Louise Barkley (2022); brother-in-law David Skou (1997) and sisters-in-law Dorothy (1989), Norma (2015), Catherine (2020), Arlene (2006), and Carolyn (2022).
