Josephine Julia “Jo” Palmer, age 67, passed away on November 30, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein, Iowa.

Born on July 22, 1957, in Ida Grove, Iowa, Jo was the daughter of Noel and Guyneith (Smith) Ludwig. She grew up on the family farm south of Battle Creek, Iowa, and graduated from Battle Creek High School with the class of 1975, “Go Bombers”.

After graduation, Jo worked as a secretary at the local Battle Creek Times newspaper. She was an accomplished cook and started her culinary journey at the Ugly Duck restaurant in Battle Creek. Jo also cooked at one of the local nursing homes. With a heart of gold, Jo discovered she enjoyed caring for others. This would spark her interest in becoming a nurse. After obtaining her RN, Jo worked in numerous nursing homes sharing her compassion and care with the elderly community.

After many years in nursing, Jo returned to her passion for cooking. She left nursing and worked side by side her sister Sharlene in the family business known as the Bread Box in down town Battle Creek. Besides cooking and baking, Jo loved to garden, crochet, and was an avid reader.

Survivors include her brother Rodney Ludwig of Battle Creek, IA; sister Sharlene Osborn of Battle Creek, IA; nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews: Brian Ludwig, Noelle Ballard, Casey (Caleb Benna) Ludwig, Jillian (Kyle) Groves, Dillion Osborn, Camryn Ludwig, Lilyanna Ballard, Beau Ballard, Bentley Groves, Daxton Groves, Colter Groves, and Arylla Osborn; extended family and friends.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents Noel and Guyneith Ludwig; and her paternal and maternal grandparents.
