In Memory of Darren Dean Venteicher

Darren D. Venteicher, age 53, of Denver, Colorado (formerly of Galva, Iowa) passed away on October 30, 2025, in Denver, Colorado.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Father William A. McCarthy will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2025, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Darren Dean Venteicher, the son of Lou Ann (O’Connor) and the (late) Dean Venteicher, was born on February 22, 1972, in Battle Creek, IA. In 1990, Darren graduated from Galva-Holstein High School. He furthered his education at Iowa Lakes Comm. College studying horticulture and moved on to Buena Vista University receiving a B.A. degree in Music Theory with a minor in Psychology. In 1992, Darren became father to his son and life-long best friend, Nicholas Schemmel.

In 1994, Darren moved to Denver, CO and in 1998 founded his business, Holiday Artisans, which would start a 30-year career in the holiday and event décor business. During his time as owner of Holiday Artisans, and later DNM Events, Darren won many décor awards, including Best of Colorado. Darren was featured on HGTV in 2006 for his fabrication of a Christmas tree made of $1.25M in shredded money for Neiman Marcus Christmas in Dallas, TX. While in Denver, Darren divided his time among several volunteer groups and organizations to include the Denver Professional Men’s Club, Project Angel Heart, Denver BOMA (Building Owners & Managers Association), Denver Chamber of Commerce, and Rocky Mountain Shopping Center Association.

Darren loved all things joyous and had an eccentric way about him that many loved. He was a connoisseur of conversational sound effects, a larger-than-life laugh, and a singing voice everyone loved to hear. Darren enjoyed travelling internationally and spending time with his son, family, and friends. He was often found in his well-manicured yard. His passion for gardening was proved each year by his overflowing produce from the backyard garden. If he wasn’t in the yard, he was likely by the water. Whether it be the ocean or on the lake boating, he was happy. Darren also loved all things related to “The Wizard of Oz”.

His favorite time of year was Christmas, during which he made sure to have at least two trees up in his immaculately decorated home. He never let anyone feel left out, ensuring a gift was given or a plate was taken home. As a teenager, Darren insisted on music at Christmas celebrations, “Merry Christmas” by Andy Williams, specifically. The Iowa State Fair may just have been Darren’s second favorite time of year. He attended almost every year since he was in high school, making sure to see all the livestock and anything floral. He made sure to leave his touch at friends or family’s homes, adjusting their floral arrangements to perfection.

Darren truly loved his family, friends, and everyone in his life. He always had time to play with the little kids either by jumping on a scooter with them or allowing his toes to get painted by his 4-yr old nephew. His happiest moments were with all of his family, especially in Iowa. Driving around his son and new daughter-in-law or reminiscing with siblings about the “remember when…”  

Left to cherish his memory include his son Nicholas (Madi) Schemmel and granddaughter Elliotte of Denver, CO; mother Lou Ann Venteicher of Ida Grove, IA; sisters Valerie Scheer of Plattsmouth NE and Marcy (Kamran) Dil of Papillion NE; brother Perry (Amy) Venteicher of Holstein IA; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and an enormous amount of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Dean Venteicher; brother Adam Venteicher; paternal grandparents Ray Venteicher, Joe Dirksen, and Rita Dirksen; maternal grandparents Darrell and Florence O’Connor; uncles Perry O’Connor, David Rose, Mike Collins, and Dan Busch; and cousins Evan Bengford, Cody Bengford, Suzanne Schleis, Melanie Meyer, and Bradley Rose.
