Mark “Dicky” Johnston, son of Richard D. and Mavis L. (Wangler) Johnston, was born on March 15, 1960, in Ida Grove, Iowa. He was raised on the family’s century farm northwest of Kiron, Iowa, where he developed a lifelong love for farming and rural life.

Mark attended grade school in Kiron through the sixth grade and later graduated from Denison High School with the Class of 1978. Following graduation, he remained on the family farm with his brother Matt.

Throughout his life, Mark dedicated himself to agricultural work and helping others. He worked for Dennis Gustafson, Kluver Farms, Scott Pick, and the Ullrich family. Mark enjoyed farming and was especially good at running a sprayer and hauling grain. Mark was a dedicated employee and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed.

In his free time, Mark enjoyed attending threshing bees, particularly in Albert City. He also enjoyed antique tractors, classic cars, tractor pulls and car races. Mark loved going for drives in the country to look at crops and reminisce about farming practices and local history. When Mark was younger, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, participating in hill climbs and competing with friends on who could ride the longest wheelie.

Mark will be remembered for his love of family, sense of humor and deep appreciation for the simple joys of country life.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Mavis Johnston; and Aunt Delores Wangler.

Survivors include his brother Matt Johnston of Denison, Iowa; extended family and close friends.
