Colleen Marie Gronemeyer, the daughter of Grant and Marie (McKeone) Roberts, was born on March 31, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska. She grew up in South Omaha and graduated from South High School.

After graduating from high school, she began her career with the National Indemnity Insurance Company in Omaha. She met her future husband, Terry, in Omaha while he was in the Air Force stationed at Offutt AFB. The couple met in May of 1968 and were married in December of that year.

After welcoming their first child, Colleen chose to step away from the workforce to focus on raising her family. The couple was blessed with three sons: Shannon, Sean, and Shane. Colleen later returned to work as a teacher’s aide, assisting children with disabilities in the Benton Community School District in Van Horne, Iowa. Throughout the years, Colleen and Terry made their home in several different communities as Terry’s career required the family to relocate with each new transfer.

Colleen loved horses and was finally able to own some when they found their first acreage. After her husband’s retirement, they moved back to an acreage south of Odebolt, Iowa, which was his hometown.

Life on the acreage suited Colleen well. She especially enjoyed raising chickens and ducks, a pastime she continued until her health no longer allowed her to do so. Colleen was also an active and devoted member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. Her faith and church family were important parts of her life, and she particularly treasured Wednesday morning Bible study and the opportunity to serve others by helping with meals through the church’s Feed My Sheep program.

Left to cherish her memory include her husband Terry Gronemeyer of Odebolt, IA; sons Shannon Gronemeyer of Ham Lake, MN, Sean Gronemeyer of Wilmar, MN and Shane Gronemeyer of Edina, MN; granddaughters Addison and Taylor of Edina, MN; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Grant and Marie Roberts; and her brother Michael Roberts.
