George E. Landgraf, age 100, of Ida Grove, Iowa (formerly of Odebolt, Iowa) passed away, Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Golden Horizons Assisted Living of Ida Grove, Iowa.

George Edward Landgraf was born August 7, 1926, to Albert and Pearl (Dinges) Landgraf on a farm east of Odebolt, Iowa. He was the only son of Albert and Pearl who also had nine daughters (one who died shortly after birth). 

George farmed with his father until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 24, 1945. He was a Seaman First Class and worked as an aviation mechanic. He was honorably discharged October 17, 1947, to return home and help on the farm after Albert fell ill. He would farm all his life living west of town. 

On November 15, 1949, George married Dorothy Schroeder. The couple was blessed with five children. Dorothy and George retired from farming in 1989 and moved to Odebolt. He continued to work at the Odebolt Elevator and for Dennis Youngquist during harvest season for many years. George loved operating the combine. 

An avid reader, George frequently visited the Odebolt Library to read Louis L’Amour and David Baldacci, two of his favorite authors. He was a faithful member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. George was also a proud member of the Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion in Odebolt. 

George’s wife, Dorothy, passed away on August 15, 2002. On December 27, 2005, he married Margaret (Stoffel) Roeder. The couple made their home in Odebolt, Iowa, until April 2021, when they relocated to Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Margaret Landgraf of Ida Grove, IA; his children James (Carol) Landgraf of Ankeny, IA, John (Phyllis Jones) Landgraf of Ames, IA, Marianne (Darrell) Overturf of Dubuque, IA, Lisa (Leanne Golinvaux) Landgraf of Dubuque, IA and Timothy (Jan Libbey) Landgraf of Kanawha, IA. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren Christopher (Holly) Overturf and their children Macey and Emily, Michael (Trish) Overturf and their children Noah, TJ, and Collins, Jonathon (Liz) Overturf and their son Marshall, Andrew Landgraf, and Jessica (Katrina Nichols) Landgraf and their children Eira and Esker. 

Additional survivors include his sisters Jean Jackson and Lois Kipf both of Davenport, IA; Margaret’s children Russell (Vicki) Roeder, Colette (Joe) Peabody, LaDon (Sandra) Roeder, Audra (Roy) Schaaf, Tony (Amanda) Roeder, and Kim (Mike) Kirby; as well as many other extended family members who he knows and doesn’t know.

He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Pearl Landgraf; his first wife Dorothy Landgraf; seven sisters and their spouses as well as many others…he was 100 after all.
