Jacqueline C. “Jackie” Sorensen, age 84, of Odebolt, Iowa passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014, at her residence in Odebolt, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Pastor Bill Crawford will officiate. Burial will be at the Odebolt Cemetery, of Odebolt, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Jacqueline was born on January 18, 1930, in Camden, New Jersey to John and Anna Mary (Mickle) Spence.
Jackie grew up in New Jersey and met Kenneth C. Sorensen at the conclusion of WW II. The couple were married in Gloucester City, New Jersey, in 1946. The couple then moved to Odebolt, Iowa in 1947 and were blessed with a child, a son they named Scott.
Jackie had a passion for crafting. Some of the crafts she enjoyed where; embroidery, sewing, plastic canvas stitching and fabric painting just to name a few. She played the organ by ear, loved big band, swing music, and going dancing. Jackie belonged to many card clubs, the Odebolt Nursing & Rehab Center Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge and Odebolt First Presbyterian Church.
Jackie was a dedicated mother and grandmother who relished her family and adored traveling with her friend Margaret McGonigle. She had a soft spot for animals and an immense collection of anything Mickey Mouse.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 68 years, Kenneth Sorensen of Odebolt, Iowa; son, Scott & Jackie (Bengford) Sorensen of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren, Chase Sorensen of O’Neil, Nebraska, Samantha Sorensen of Sioux City, Iowa; five sisters, Lenore Morgan of Daytona, Florida, Catherine Ford of Glassboro, New Jersey, Beverley McClaine of West Deptford, New Jersey, Wilma Cheesman of Glassboro, New Jersey, Kay Melson of Oak Valley, New Jersery; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Mary Spence and sister Anna Mary Davis.
