In Memory of JoAnn A. Miller

JoAnn A. Miller, age 73, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 26, 2014 at the Black Hawk Life Care Center of Lake View, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Rev. Don F. Pobanz will officiate. Burial will be in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. JoAnn Miller was born on August 14, 1941, in Holstein, Iowa, to Royal and Betty (Nellis) Miller.

The family made their home in Ida Grove, Iowa, where JoAnn attended school.  JoAnn met Darrell Newman and they were united into marriage. The couple was blessed with four children, Clayton, Rodney, Alan, and Kimberly.  The couple later parted ways.

JoAnn had an enthusiasm for cooking and ran a catering business called Jo’s Kitchen. She also worked as a manger in restaurants. She will be remembered for her amazing cinnamon rolls, delectable buttermilk brownie’s, and mouthwatering potato salad.

Besides her joy for cooking and baking, JoAnn liked playing cards, spending time with her family, and a good ice cold Coke.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Clayton (Cindy) Newman of Trussville, AL; Alan Newman of St Charles, MO; Kimberly (Brent) Thoms of Norfolk, Ne; five grandchildren, Nikki, Alyssa, Bryce, Bailey, and Brayden; brothers, Rolla (Janine) Miller of Charlottesville, VI; LeRoy (Brenda) Miller of Cherokee, IA; Roger Miller of Charlottesville, VI; Jesse Miller of Sioux City, Iowa; sisters, Rebecca Peters of Lake View, IA; MaryAnn Foster of Madison, WI; and many family and friends.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, son, Rodney Newman, and sister, Mavis.
