In Memory of Scheryl R. Grell

Scheryl R. Grell, age 78, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at her residence of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the United Methodist Church of Ida Grove Iowa. The Reverend Chad Lierman will officiate. Burial will be in the Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Scheryl Rae (Rodewald) Grell was born on December 15, 1936, to Lewis and Velma (Stringer) Rodewald. She grew up in Rockwell City, Iowa, attending school and graduating in 1954.

Scheryl met James F. Grell and the couple were united into marriage on December 4, 1955 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church East of Rockwell City. They made their home on a farm South of Ida Grove and were blessed with three children, Donna, Matthew, and Katharine.

Scheryl enjoyed the farm and stayed home to raise her children until they entered school. She began working at the True Value hardware store and then became a nurse aide. She retired after 20 years.

She enjoyed, reading and taking trips with Jim to Indiana, Minnesota, and Fairs.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donna and her husband Randy Sonksen of Harlan, Iowa; Matthew and his wife Ronda Grell of Ida Grove, Iowa; Katharine and her husband John Parr of North Salem, Indiana; grandchildren Elyssia and Jasmine Wellington; Zack and Austin Parr; brother, James and wife Denise Rodewald of Peoria, Illinois; and many extended family and friends.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James “Jim” Grell; and her parents-in-law.
