Anne Fischer Snell
April 2, 1933 - April 10, 2015
From: Ida Grove, IA

Anne Fischer Snell was born April 2, 1933, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to Herman and Elizabeth Fischer.  The family moved to Meservey, Iowa, in 1936.  Anne graduated from Meservey High School and then earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the State University of Iowa.

In 1955, while working at University Hospitals, Anne met Bruce, a law student, who she married in 1956.  During their fifty-nine (59) years of marriage, their interesting diverse activities included attending many musicals in Des Moines and years of season tickets to the Iowa Hawkeye football games.  Travel included visiting all of the fifty United States, six countries in South America, eighteen countries in Europe, eight provinces in Canada, five Caribbean Islands, Morocco in Africa, the Bahamas and Mexico.

During her thirty-seven years of employment, Anne worked in two hospitals as a clinical nurse, taught in two Schools of Nursing, was a school nurse in two schools, a public health nurse, and a public health nurse consultant for fifteen counties.

All of her life, Anne was a member and actively involved in Methodist or Presbyterian Churches.  She was a fifty-eight year (2015) member of P.E.O. and a Quester for many years.  She liked to play bridge and euchre, knit, crochet, counted cross-stitch, read, cook and entertain.

Anne will be remembered for her optimism and positive spirit, especially her caring and compassion.  She was always grateful to the many persons who blessed her with love, laughter and encouragement.  To honor her joyful spirit, please share a smile, a hug, a story, an act of kindness.

Anne is survived by her loving family: husband, Bruce; her daughter, Rebecca, and beloved cat, Cali of Orlando, Florida; her son, Brad (Carol), and their five devoted canine companions, Rocco, Sweet Pea, Blizzard, Foxy and Tank, of Iowa City, Iowa; her brother, Robert, of Meservey, Iowa; and her sister-in-law, Maxine, of Meservey, Iowa.  Not having biological grandchildren, Anne and Bruce gratefully accepted the invitation to be “honorary grandparents” to Cole, Evan and Sophia Veltri.

Anne died on April 10, 2015 of heart failure at Mayo Clinic, Saint Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Elizabeth Fischer; her brother, William; and her sister-in-laws, Delores and Dorene.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 10:30am, United Methodist Church, Ida Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Chad Lierman will officiate.  Cremains burial will be at Ida Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 4:00pm to 7:00pm, Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home, Ida Grove, Iowa. “Judge Snell, Brad, and Becky,

I am sorry to hear about Anne. I remember her kindness and constant cheerfulness. I also fondly remember the buffet she made every year for the wrestling team and how the wrestlers would weigh in before and after the party. John Murphy claims that one year he gained 13 pounds from that one party. She will be missed.

With deepest sympathy,

Debra
