In Memory of Judy A. Jepsen

Judy A. Jepsen, age 74, of Sioux City, formerly of Ida Grove, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2015 at Unity Point Health – St. Luke’s Hospital of Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Faith Community Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Rev. Mark Aurand will officiate. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa with military rites conducted by the McNamara – Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Judy A. Jepsen was born on June 11, 1941 in Portland, Oregon to Gordon Hosmer and Harriet Bowers.

Judy grew up and attended school in Portland, she continued her education in the field of Nursing, becoming a LPN.

Judy joined the U.S. Navy in 1959 as a Naval Nurse and was stationed in Waukegan, Illinois, where she worked at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. While working she met and cared for an ARMY man named Tom Jepsen.  Judy and Tom were married on a Military weekend pass in Yankton, South Dakota on December 21, 1960. Both had to return to their stations, Tom to Virginia and Judy to California. Tom and Judy both served their country with honor and were honorably discharged in 1961.

Being out of the service the couple made their home in Ida Grove, Iowa, and were blessed with three children; David, Debra, and Dianna.

Judy worked in the Odebolt Nursing Home, and retired from the Morningside Care Center after 32 years.

Judy enjoyed crafting, sewing, reading, camping, fishing, painting ceramics, collecting dolls, making miniature doll houses along with all the furniture, baking, and cooking. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her famous potato salad and delectable banana cream pie.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 54 years, Tom Jepsen of Sioux City, Iowa; children, David Jepsen and wife Beverly of Lynn Center, Illinois; Debra Reed and husband Michael of Aurelia, Iowa; Dianna Koontz and Chad Menefee of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; nine grandchildren; Stephen Jepsen, Angela Jepsen, Heidi Nelson, Tabatha Grissom, Brittany Grissom, Andrew Koontz, Tyler Koontz, Trevor Koontz, Olivia Koontz; three great grandchildren; brother, George O’Neill of Virginia; Sisters, Pamela Adams and husband Dan of Oregon; Roxyne Manning and husband John of Virginia; Barbara Lindquist and husband Gene of Arizona; and extended family and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patricia; and two brothers, Michael and David.
