In Memory of Roger N. Neville

Roger N. Neville, age 83, of Odebolt, Iowa passed away on Thursday June 25, 2015 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2015, at the Faith Lutheran Church of Odebolt, Iowa. The Rev. Vic Johnson will officiate. Committal Services will be held at the Odebolt Cemetery of Odebolt, Iowa with military rites conducted by the Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a time of remembrance service held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Faith Lutheran Church of Odebolt, Iowa. Roger N. Neville was born on November 16, 1931, at home in Wheeler Township Sac County, Iowa. He was the son of Charlie and Ruth (Rydberg) Neville.

He attended Odebolt High School and in 1951 he joined the Army Reserves in Sac City. Roger served in the U.S. Army at Fort Carson, Colorado and was stationed overseas after the cease fire in Inchon, South Korea. He served with the 547^th Engineer Company APO 358 making floating bridges. Roger also worked as a truck mechanic earning the rank of staff sergeant.

Roger returned home to farm with his dad and brother Frank. Roger enjoyed doing custom work, combining and windrowing hay for many of his neighbors.

On August 11, 1962, Roger was united into marriage to Ruth Elaine Peterson. The couple were blessed with four children: Gregory, Connie, David, and Amy. The couple farmed south of Odebolt, Iowa until his retirement in 1996. Roger continued to keep busy with tinkering on motors and tractors.

Roger and Ruth enjoyed traveling out west, many times riding their motorcycle. For two winters they worked at a snowmobile lodge in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Roger loved to help people when they needed it. He was happy when he had a tractor engine of some kind to work on. In 1997 he was honored as Iowan of the Day at the Iowa State Fair.

Roger was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church of Odebolt, Iowa; serving many years as a head usher and on the property committee.

He was a 59 year member of the Odebolt American Legion Roose Post 313, always ready to serve in the color guard or recruit new members.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Neville of Odebolt, Iowa; children, Greg Neville (Mary) of Odebolt, Iowa; Connie Leinbaugh of Odebolt, Iowa; Dave Neville and Fiancée Dawn Groth of Denison, Iowa; Amy Dreith (Brian) of Rolfe, Iowa; grandchildren: Nathan (Sami) Neville, Garrett Neville, Kenzie Neville, Tyler (Emily) Leinbaugh, Dalton Leinbaugh, Austin Neville, Jen Neville, Cati Neville, Collin Dreith, Danica Dreith; great grandchildren, Jaxin and Bennett Neville; step grandchildren: Tyler (Theresa) Groth and Nathan Groth; step great grandchild, Tienica Groth; brother, Frank Neville (Diane) of Odebolt, Iowa; sisters, Charlotte Bengford of Odebolt, Iowa; Beverly Kolbe of Sac City, Iowa; and numerous extended family and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ruth Neville; brother, Wendell Neville; and sister, Lorraine Susie.
