In Memory of Cindy Gunderson

Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. The Pastor Mark Peterson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Odebolt Cemetery of Odebolt, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Cindy Kay Gunderson was born on June 9, 1955 in Spirt Lake, Iowa, to Cyril and Julia (Ukasick) Gunderson. Cindy grew up on the family farm outside of Kiron, Iowa, where she attended special educations programs in Sac City, Wall Lake, Lake View and Ida Grove.

Cindy joined the New Hope family in Carroll, Iowa as a resident on May 29, 1979. She joined the United Methodist Church of Carroll, Iowa and took part in United Methodist Women.

Cindy was active in the programs that New Hope provided. She was a member of the Praising Hands Sign Choir and had the privilege of preforming for the Governor. She also participated in the Equestrian program through New Hope and had the joy of working with Horses. In 1995 Cindy went in to community living with three other roommates.

Cindy loved the water, which earned her a spot on the Special Olympic Swim Team. Cindy also enjoyed the Carroll Garden club, bowling league, and shopping, but she truly treasured most of all spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Donald Gunderson of Dike, Iowa; Marlin Gunderson of Kiron, Iowa; sisters, Julianne Chedester of Sioux City, Iowa; Suzanne (Ken) Roeder of DeSmet, South Dakota; special friends: Bonnie Voght, Louanne Tigges, Lucille Whitehead; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Julia Gunderson; brother, James Gunderson; brother-in-law, Bob Chedester; sisters-in-law: Mary Jo Gunderson, Shirley Gunderson, and Margie Gunderson.
