Mary Lou Fletcher, age 89, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Morningside Healthcare Community, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Morningside Healthcare Community of Ida Grove, Iowa. Pastor Richard A. Salcido will officiate.  A Visitation will be held one hour prior to service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Morningside Healthcare Community. The Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online to www.christensenvanhouten.com

Beloved Grandmother and Aunt, Mary Lou Fletcher, passed away peacefully early on the morning of September 9, 2016.

 Mary Lou Fletcher, the daughter of Taylor and Kenyon (Henry) Hastings, was born on May 31, 1927 in Enid, Oklahoma.

Mary Lou grew up in Enid, Oklahoma, and graduated from Enid Oklahoma High School with the class of 1945. After school she went to work for the local telephone company as a telephone operator. On June 23, 1946, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Fletcher, in Wichita, Kansas. They were blessed with two daughters, Cynthia and Susan.

The family made their home in Oklahoma City for 15 years before coming to Iowa, first to Waterloo and then to Ida Grove. She was a member of the St Paul Lutheran Church, of Ida Grove, Iowa. Mary Lou belonged to St. Paul Lutheran ladies circle and to the Ladies Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed being a homemaker, golfing, flowers, bowling, and walking.

Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Lou (Ed) Bailey of Kansas City, MO; beloved granddaughter, Amber J. Bailey of Kansas City, MO; niece, Linda Tucker of White Bear Township, MN; sister-in-law, Jenny Hastings of Colorado Springs, CO; and extended family and friends.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Taylor and Kenyon Hastings; husband, Lawrence J. Fletcher; daughter, Susan Ruth Fletcher; brothers, James T. Hastings, Kenneth H. (Wanda) Hastings; sister Virginia R. (Alexander “Porky”) Strand.

“My sincere condolences to my cousin Cindy Lou and all friends and family of Mary Lou. I remember her from when I was a young child and our family visited relatives in Oklahoma. She was always a smiling and friendly person. I loved to spend time with my cousin at their house. The last time I had contact with Mary was when I called her when my husband and I were traveling across the a year or so ago. She declined a visit from us, but we had a most enjoyable hour long talk on the phone. I know you all will find a void in your lives with her passing. ”

“I enjoyed Mary Lou so much over the years. I remember when she and Larry came to Ida Grove and Larry to work at GOMACO. My husband Merlyn Lingren, worked there too. We had lots of fun at the GOMACO gatherings.Mary Lou enjoyed our Red Hat outings, country club, and coffee clatches. She always had a big smile, abundant laughter, and good stories to tell. Loved that Oklahoma accent. Many blessings to you, her family. She will always be a bright star in our heaven. We will miss her.....
