A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Reverend Kevin J. Freese will officiate, with interment following in the Mt. Hope Cemetery with Military Rites by Maple Valley Post No. 364 of the American Legion, of Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Thomas “Tom” Peters was born on March 2, 1952, in Danbury, Iowa, to Forrest and Elaine (Mauch) Peters. He was baptized and later confirmed into the Presbyterian faith. The family made their home in Battle Creek, Iowa, where Tom attended Battle Creek School.
On November 13, 1969, Tom enlisted in to the United States Marines. He was stationed overseas in Hawaii where he drove an Amtrak. Serving his country for two years, Tom was honorably discharged on November 2, 1971. Upon returning home Tom met the love of his life Ardena F. Hedberg and they were united into marriage on March 30, 1973, in Elk Point, South Dakota.
Tom worked with his brothers-in-law, Marvin Bloom and Ed Hedberg removing and replacing telephone poles. He later purchased his own semi-truck and started hauling for trucking companies. Tom and Ardena were blessed with three children: Ginger, Shelley, and Tiffany. The family made their home in Battle Creek, Iowa were Ardena and Tom have lived up to present.
Tom had several accomplishments in his life. He attended masonry school, got his EMT certificate, patented the magnetic wrench attachment, and operated his own semi-truck hauling road materials locally.
Tom enjoyed, hunting, fishing, golfing, and just simply spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 43 years, Ardena Peters of Battle Creek, Iowa; children: Ginger ( significant other, Dennis Morgan) Collins of Kiron, Iowa, Shelley (Tom) Sharkey of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Tiffany (Fiancé Jake Trierweiler) Peters of Battle Creek, Iowa, grandchildren: Cody and Brice Gorden, Tonisha Roeder, Tasha Sharkey, Keeli Larson, Derek and Blake Sharkey, Adalynn and Landyn Trierweiler; brother, John (Cindy) Peters of Battle Creek, Iowa; sisters, Bonnie Besson of Las Vegas, Nevada and Mae Hedberg of Battle Creek, Iowa; brother-in-law, Frank Collins of Ida Grove, Iowa; sister-in-law, Becky Peters of Lake View, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ed Peters; sister, Judy Collins; brothers-in-law, Jerry Beeson and Donny Hedberg.
