Edna C. Shaw, age 99, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 27, 2017, at the Morningside Healthcare Community, of Ida Grove, Iowa.
A Private Family & Close Friend Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 02, 2017 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Pastor Chad Lierman will officiate, with committal services following in the Galva Township Cemetery East of Galva, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 02, 2017 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Edna C. Shaw the daughter of Falgot and Martha (Berndt) Albertson, was born on December 13, 1917, in Battle Creek, Iowa, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Edna grew up in rural Odebolt and Wall Lake, Iowa where she was homeschooled through the 8th grade. After school Edna worked as a housekeeper and helped with farm work.
On August 17, 1938, Edna was united in marriage to Burdette Shaw in Milbank, South Dakota. The couple settled on a farm outside of Galva, Iowa. Edna and Burdette were blessed with two sons, Don and Larry and daughter Beverly. The family relocated to Ida Grove, Iowa in 1945 and welcomed son Gary.
In the early 1950’s, Edna started a career at J.C. Penney’s as a sale clerk. She retired after 25 years of service and continued with her passion as a seamstress. A gifted sewer and crafter, Edna made memorable bride dolls and stuffed animal toys, along with her regular sewing projects for clients. Edna was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove, Iowa where she enjoyed taking part in her ladies circle.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Burdette Shaw, son Don Shaw, infant son Larry, several sisters and brothers, and son-in-law Donald Howe.
She is survived by her children: daughter Beverly Howe of Marietta, GA and son Gary Shaw of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law Deloris Shaw of Ida Grove, Iowa; five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister Anne Lamaak of Sioux City, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
