In Memory of Edward G. Hedberg

Edward G. Hedberg, age 79, of Newell, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Rev. Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Memorial Service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., February 8, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Edward Gustav Hedberg, was born on November 24, 1939, in Odebolt, IA. One of eight children born to Carl and Loretta (Neville) Hedberg. He grew up in Dunlap, IA and at the age of 17, joined the United States Army. After honorably serving his country, Ed returned home where he met the love of his life Janice Klinker of Denison, IA.

On December 15, 1958, the couple were united into marriage and throughout the years were blessed with five children: Shawn, Edwin, Glen, Judy and Allen. The family made their home in Battle Creek, IA, where Ed worked for Mapple Valley Construction and Bell Telephone.

Ed started getting involved in the trucking business and had many business adventures. The family relocated to Ida Grove, IA and finding his faith again Ed became a born-again Christian. While living in Ida Grove, Ed was employed with Sheer Construction and Midwest Industries. The couple would relocate to Minneapolis, MN, where Ed would run the flatbed division for Crouse Cartage Trucking Co.

While in Minneapolis the couple purchased an acreage outside of Newell, IA and in 1986, Ed started as an over the road trucker after Crouse transferred to Sioux City, IA. He purchased a gravel truck and moved to Newell where he hauled rock and asphalt for Robin Construction for 17 years and then for Lundell Construction for 9 years before he retired in 2016, to take care of his wife Janice.

Ed enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his four-legged companions (dogs), and spending time with his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Shawn (Jeff) Gorsett of Sioux City, IA, Edwin Hedberg, Allen Hedberg of Holstein, IA and Glen (Jennifer) Hedberg of Roseburg, OR; 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sister Ardena Peters of Battle Creek, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife Janice Hedberg; daughter Judy Boysen, four brothers Dewayne, David, Donald and Jerry; and two sisters Ruth and Joyce.
