In Memory of Virginia M. Hasbrouck

Virginia M. Hasbrouck, age 86, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at the Golden Horizons Assisted Living of Ida Grove, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2019, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove Iowa. Virginia Mae Hasbrouck, the daughter of Ernest and Edna (Schroeder) Krayenhagen was born on October 12, 1932, in Ida Grove, IA. She grew up in Ida Grove and graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1951.

After high school, Virginia attended the American Beauty School in Des Moines, IA, achieving her beautician accreditation and license.

On September 8, 1952, Virginia was united in marriage to Morris Hasbrouck in the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, IA. The couple were blessed with five children Spencer, Teresa, Curtis, Corinne and Renee. The couple would farm in the Mapleton area before relocating to Ida Grove and then settling on a farm south of Ida Grove in the mid 60’s.

Virginia owned and operated her beauty shop Curly Q until she sold the business to lend a helping hand on the farm. Virginia was a faithful member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove were she shared her talents teaching Sunday school and participating in ladies circle. She was a member of the local Legion Auxiliary and the ODO Neighbors Club. Virginia enjoyed donating her time as a volunteer at the local care center, Morningside Nursing Home and as a Cub Scout leader.  

Virginia took joy in cooking, sewing, crafts, gardening, canning, and bowling. Virginia was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she relished all of her moments spent with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Spencer (Nancy) Hasbrouck of Ida Grove, IA, Curtis (Tamy) Hasbrouck of Forney, TX, Corinne (Ace) McAllister of Red Oak, TX and Renee (Jim) Ehrig Phillips of Sioux City, IA; 15 grandchildren: Andrew (Jennifer) Braden, George (Nicki) Ehrig, Matthew Braden and fiancé Brittany Pope, Jakob (Angela) Hasbrouck, Jaben Hasbrouck, Jarod (Jill) Hasbrouck, Zachary (Shelbie) Hasbrouck, Elisha (John) Malaise-Ehrig, Amy Miller, Katie (Matt) Ehrig-Salvatore, Jaime (J.B.) Huster, Jennifer (David) McKey, Amanda Stinson, Rebecca (Jake) Heiliger and Amelia Hasbrouck; 26 great-grandchildren; sister Judy (Rich) King of Rembrandt, IA; sister-in-law Donna Krayenhagen of Sioux City, IA; extended family and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Enda Krayenhagen; husband Morris Hasbrouck; infant daughter Teresa Hasbrouck; grandson Michael Braden; brothers LeRoy and Kenneth (Karen) Krayenhagen; sister Darlene (Kenneth) Gates.
