Dean R. Fick, age 75, of Battle Creek, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s Hospital of Sioux City, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Neil Wehmas & Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. Military Rites will be conducted by the Maple Valley Post No. 364 of the American Legion of Battle Creek, IA. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Dean was born September 18,1943, in Bloomfield, Nebraska, to Hans and Florence (Fick) Fick. He was born in the doctor’s office. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Dean attended Battle Creek Community School, graduating with the class of 1961. After high school, Dean attended Midlands College in Freemont, Nebraska, for 2 years.
After college, Dean returned home to help his father with the farm work when his mother became ill. He enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served for 6 years. Dean married Janice Sacquety on December 27, 1964. The couple were blessed with 2 daughters, Amy and Carol. The couple later divorced.
On May 27, 2006, Dean married Peggy Bell. Dean was a faithful member at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek for many years where he served as President and Vice-President, Sunday School Superintendent and trustee. Dean was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa, where he served as an elder, usher and videographer.
Dean was also a member of the Battle Creek Lions Club, where he served as President and Vice-President. He was an instructor in the carpentry program for 10 years at Western Iowa Tech Community College and also a local contractor for many years.
In 1983, he went to work as an insurance adjustor for Ida Mutual Insurance and later purchased into the Pfaltzgraff-McMahon insurance agency which later became known as Pfaltzgraff-Fick. He was the manager for Ida Mutual Insurance agency from 1998-2016. After which time he retired.
Dean spent many years enjoying motorcycling, golfing and playing cards. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife Peggy along with family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughters Ashlyn and Makayla.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Lee Fick of Battle Creek, IA; step-son and his wife Eric and Melanie Bell of Pella IA, two granddaughters Ashlyn and Makayla Bell; sisters-in-law Patty Hamann of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Pam Limoges of Sioux City, IA and Carla Fick of Battle Creek, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hans and Florence Fick; 3 brothers James “Boots” Fick, Henry Fick and Harold Fick.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to the Battle Creek Cemetery and Ronald McDonald house in Iowa City in honor of his memory.

Condolences
I have just recently learned, that Dean has passed away.Please, accept my late condolences, so sorry.
We don't know each other. But I am a first degree cousin of Dean. I am the son of the youngest brother of Dean's father who emigrated fom Germany to the US. I am ftom the German connection. As we are all getting older, I have retired too, and I am living in Bali now, in the tropics, which had been my choice.
I have met Dean the last time, along with his brother Jimmy, about 20 years ago when they visited Germany for a last time. Some kind of wedding celebration of another cousin;s daughter. I have forgotten the details. However, I remember that Dean wae really scared about my fast driving on German highwys. We did about 200 km/h.
Many, many years ago, I used to live in NYC and, at one point, I visited the Ficks in Battle Creek. Dean's parents were still alive.. I had spent a long weekend in their house - the steaks just wouldn't stop arriving to feed me. Great hospitality.
I just wanted to share this with you. I wish you all the best.

We are so sadden to hear of Dean's passing. Brian enjoyed playing golf with him these past summers and was so pleased when Dean invited him to be his partner in the Battle Creek tournament at the Ida Grove Golf Course. We will miss his sense of humor and smile.
