In Memory of Dorothy E. Ruser

Dorothy E. Ruser, age 85, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2019, at the Faith Community Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Pastor Mark Aurand will officiate with Committal Services following in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2019, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Dorothy E. Ruser, the daughter of Paul and Emma (Pries) Krambeck, was born on November 10, 1933, in rural Cherokee County, Iowa. She grew up in the Holstein, IA area and attended Holstein High School graduating with the class of 1952. 

Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne Ruser on March 27, 1955. In 1959 upon Wayne’s honorable discharge from the service, the couple returned to Ida Grove, IA and began their farming career. They farmed until their retirement in 2000. In addition to being a farmwife, Dorothy was employed for 25 years at FmHA in a clerical position.

Dorothy treasured being a farmwife. She was a wonderful cook and was an avid collector of cookbooks and recipes. Their home was always filled with homemade bread, pies, cookies and bars that she graciously shared with her family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, gardening and canning. Dorothy also loved hosting many gatherings for family and friends at Little River. 

Left to cherish her memory include sisters-in-law Mildred Krambeck of Galva, IA and Shirley Ruser of Ida Grove, IA; brother-in-law Choyce Chadwick of Gadsen, AL; nieces and nephews Milan (Joan) Krambeck, Linda Peterson, Ellen (Jerry) Peterman, Suzan Graham, Diann (Rich) Hahn, Ronald Gray, Rebecca (Scott) Michaelsen, Beth (Kevin) Farley, Amy (Mike) Sievers, Julie (Stephen) Campbell, Deb Chadwick, David (Julie) Chadwick, Kim (Kevin) Kidd, Scotty (Lisa) Chadwick; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Emma Krambeck; husband Wayne Ruser; brother Eldon Krambeck; sister Arlene Gray; nephews Elden “Sonny” Krambeck and James Krambeck; niece Paula Krambeck; great niece Alisha Droegmiller; brothers-in-law Bob Gray and Robert Ruser; sister-in-law Janet Chadwick.
