In Memory of Annetta Bjorholm
Annetta G. Bjorholm, age 91, of Danbury, Iowa, died Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Danbury, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Dan Greving will officiate, with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Danbury. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Danbury, with a Rosary at 1 p.m. and a Scripture Service at 3 p.m.
Born May 9, 1922, on a farm near Wakonda, South Dakota, Annetta Gertrude Buckley Bjorholm was the first daughter and fourth child born to James A. and Jauletta A. (Krueger) Buckley. At the age of seven, Annetta moved with her family to a farm south of Struble, Iowa. She attended country schools in and around Struble through the eighth grade. In 1940, she graduated from the Maurice, Iowa, High School, then attended Western Union College in LeMars to receive her teaching certificate.
Annetta taught country school for two years at Preston Township #2 west of Craig, Iowa. In 1946, she came to Danbury and began teaching sixth and seventh grades in the Danbury Independent School.
On December 27, 1950, Annetta married Harry M. Bjorholm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa. Harry passed away on November 27, 1985. Annetta resumed teaching in 1968 at the Danbury Catholic grade school, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Rosary Society, Danbury American Legion Auxiliary Post 336, Danbury Community Club, Rec Center, Friends of the Library, Senior Citizens, and the famous “Nuns on the Run.” She enjoyed doing volunteer work wherever she could, playing cards, and visiting her children in their homes.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Leo and Jo Bjorholm of Page, AZ, Larry and Diane Bjorholm of Johnston, Tom and Katherine Bjorholm of Knoxville, TN, and Neil and Lynne Bjorholm of Battle Creek; two sisters, Noema Prieksat of LeMars, and Rita Minten of Kansas City, MO; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her husband, Annetta was preceded in death by a son, Roger Bjorholm; her parents; and five brothers, Leo, Tim, Bill, Tom, and Don Buckley.
