Doris (Heilman) Still, age 95, of Battle Creek, Iowa (formerly of Cushing, Iowa) passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at the Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2020, at the United Methodist Church of Cushing, Iowa. Pastor Kim Crummer will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Cushing Cemetery of Cushing, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2020, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Doris Elaine Heilman, the third of seven children, was born May 15, 1924, at the farm home southwest of Holstein, Iowa, in Battle township. Her parents were Harry and Eva (Baumann) Heilman. She attended grade school at Battle No. 2, and graduated from Cushing High School in 1941, then attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, and taught rural schools for four years.
On March 16, l947, she married Everett Still. The couple farmed near Ida Grove until 1960. Their farm home was completely destroyed by fire in February l959. In July of that year, they purchased a farm near Cushing where they lived and worked together. In l984 they retired from farming.
Doris and Everett were members of the Cushing Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, held offices with the U.M.W., and served as church treasurer for 28 years. She sat on the election board for 24 years and was always interested in politics. She was a 4-H leader and spent 35 years exhibiting in open classes at county fairs. She loved games, puzzles, reading, embroidery, and golf. Most of all, she loved bowling. She bowled partners with her father, husband, sister Ruth, daughter Shelley, and many others. She made many new friends through bowling.
She is survived by her children Shirley (Allen) Todd and Dennis (Jeannette) Still, all of Cushing, Sharon Hart of Ft. Dodge, and Shelley (Brian) Malcom of Ida Grove; grandchildren Jason (Chris) Still of Moville, Jody (Dusty) Herbold of Kingsley, Justin (Abby) Still of Cushing, Robbie (Jeanette) Todd of Ida Grove, Rex (Jennifer) Todd of Cushing, Wade (Brook) Hart of Iowa Falls, Lindsay (Judd) Foth of Humboldt, Dylan Malcom of Sioux City, Gabe Malcom of Cedar Rapids, Beau Malcom of Ida Grove; great-grandchildren Halle and Alec Still; Colton and McKenna Herbold; Raelynn and Elias Still; Matthew, Caitlin, Jacob, and Abigail Todd; Maddison, Brayden, and Ashton Todd; Tate and Braelyn Hart; Tristyn, Brody, and Tenley Foth; sister Wilma Hammer of Arthur and brothers Bob (Marilyn) Heilman of Cushing and Dan (Shirley) Heilman of Logan, New Mexico; sisters-in-law Audrey (Walter) Kent of Lompoc, California, Jeanette Heilman of Rockwell City, and Jean Still of Spencer; brother-in-law Marvin (Bette) Still of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her husband Everett Still; parents Harry and Eva Heilman; parents-in-law Lee and Nellie Still; son-in-law Michael Hart; brothers John (Sylvia) Heilman; Ross Heilman; sister Ruth (George) Hoffman; in-laws Gladys (Jay) Bower, Glen (Phyllis) Still, Doris (Garth) Lacey, Lila (LeRoy) Burk, June Grieve, and Ronald Still.
