Vicki Lee Osgood, the daughter of Leland and Nicki “Diane” (Trickey) Osgood, was born July 7, 1960, in Davenport, Iowa. Vicki grew up in Altoona, Iowa. In her youth she was a member of 4-H where she participated in showing sheep. She was also a Rainbow Girl and earned the honor of Grand Cross of Color. Vicki received her education from Southeast Polk High School graduating with the class of 1978. She then attended Graceland University on a tennis scholarship.
Vicki received her teaching degree from Graceland University and obtained numerous endorsements from Drake University and Morningside College. Teaching was Vicki’s greatest joy and she cherished her “life dedicated to educating”. She spent all 33 years of her teaching career in the classroom working in the Ida Grove and BCIG School Systems. She loved helping plan the Interdisciplinary Units the middle school teachers used to enhance learning. She would spend many hours and her own money finding items to use in these units. She always came up with ways to help make learning fun. After suffering a stroke in 2012, Vicki’s greatest disappointment was having to leave her career in education.
She enjoyed athletics (especially swimming and tennis), shopping, traveling (attending shows and ziplining in Las Vegas were especially memorable), entertaining, and suppling treats for coworkers and students. Vicki found great joy in hosting and providing meals to the entire middle school staff. She was an avid movie goer (even of the scary ones) and enjoyed trying out new restaurants with her friends. Vicki was a supporter of fundraisers and helped organize the local Relay for Life. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ida Grove.
Survivors include her brothers Brian (Ann) Osgood of Pleasant Hill, IA and Jeff Osgood of Altoona, IA; nieces McKenzie and Marian; nephew Brice; close friends considered as family, Jackie (Dan) Hoffman and Jennifer (Mike) Glawe both of Ida Grove, IA and their families; Jim (Janelle) Conley of Ankeny, IA; Jody (Matt) Coleman and their family; special friend Megan; and her former BCIG staff members.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leland and Diane Osgood and her grandparents.
Per Vicki’s wishes memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association, The American Heart Association or to the BCIG Elementary School Library to carry on her joy of being a reading teacher.
Special thanks to her appointment drivers: Jim & Janelle Conley, Jody Coleman, Sue Streit O’Neill and Lynda Perry; to Dee Boger for keeping her informed on school happenings; and to Diana Brown for the assistance and joy she provided Vicki during her time at The Shores.
