Cheryl L. Knudsen, age 73, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Reverend Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Committal will follow in the Morgan Township Cemetery of Schleswig, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 27, 2020, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Cheryl L. Knudsen, the daughter of Lloyd and Lorraine (Schultz) Wessel, was born on July 1, 1947, in Denison, Iowa. She grew up in the rural Crawford and Ida County areas. She attended and graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1965.
On September 5, 1965, Cheryl was united in marriage to Marelle Knudsen in the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The couple made their home on the family’s century farm located 10 miles southwest of Ida Grove and they were blessed with two children Michelle and Marc.
Taking an active role on the farm, Cheryl was always involved with all the daily activities and operations of the farm. You may remember Cheryl’s warm smile at the local Pamida store where she worked for 30 years before retiring.
Blessed with a green thumb, Cheryl enjoyed being outside tending to her flowers and landscaping. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who took great pride in her family especially her grandchildren. Cheryl loved shopping, going to country music concerts with Marelle, cooking, baking, and treasured spending time with her large family.
Cheryl was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa and taught Sunday school.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Marelle Knudsen of Ida Grove, Iowa; children Michelle (Tom) Clifford of Ann Arbor, MI and Marc (Ann) Knudsen of Ida Grove, IA; five grandchildren: Madison (fiancé Jason Chase) Clifford of Lenexa, KS, Michael Clifford of Ann Arbor, MI, Miranda (fiancé Tyler Roberts) Knudsen of Lake View, IA, Martin (Rhondee) Knudsen of Schleswig, IA, Matthew Knudsen of Ida Grove, IA; great-grandchildren Kipp and Granger Knudsen of Schleswig, IA; brothers Gene (Myra) Wessel, Gailen (Pam) Wessel and LaWayne (Barb) Wessel all of Ida Grove, IA; brother-in-law Burdelle (Darnelle) Knudsen of Ida Grove, IA; numerous extended family and friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Lorraine Wessel; parents in-law Marven and Helen Knudsen; and step father in-law LeRoy Schagt.
