In Memory of Mildred V. Carlson
Mildred Carlson, age 95, of Ida Grove, Iowa (formerly of Kiron, Iowa) passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020, at the Morningside Care Center of Ida Grove, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2020, at the Christensen -Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Sherri O’Bannon will officiate. Committal will follow in the Hayes Township Cemetery of Arthur, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 10, 2020, at the Christensen -Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Mildred V. (Thomsen) Carlson, the daughter of Leroy and Anetta (Goettsch) Thomsen, was born on August 20, 1925, in Ida Grove, Iowa. She grew up on a family farm southwest of Holstein, Iowa. Mildred attended country school and graduated from Holstein High School. She continued her education in the field of nursing in Sioux City, Iowa.
On November 30, 1952, Mildred was united in marriage to Warren Carlson. The couple made their home on the Carlson family farm located in Hayes Township where Mildred became a farm wife and homemaker. Mildred and Warren were blessed with two sons, Doug and Edwin.
Mildred was a devoted member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ida Grove, Iowa and was a past 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Arthur, Iowa Chapter. Mildred enjoyed refinishing old antique furniture and the card game solitaire. She was an accomplished cook and was known for her delicious homegrown fried chicken.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Doug Carlson of Ida Grove, Iowa; grandson, Jason Carlson; three nephews; extended family and friends.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Anetta Thomsen; husband, Warren Carlson; and son, Edwin Carlson.
