Jon P. Lageschulte, age 64, formerly of Ida Grove, IA, passed away at his home on March 12, 2021, with his family by his side.

Per Jon’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be conducted at a later date.

Jon was born October 14, 1956 in Waverly, IA, to Paul and Betty Lageschulte. Growing up on the family farm with his older sister and brother not only provided hours of entertainment, but it’s also where he picked up his tenacious work ethic. He graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1975 where he excelled in wrestling and track. Shortly after high school, he moved to Ida Grove where he lived for 30 years.

Jon was blessed with three daughters – K’Lyn, Abby and Angie. In 1989, he married Mary (Thomson) Wunschel and gained a son, Daniel. From that day forward, their days were spent making memories with their children. He especially enjoyed attending his children’s activities and NEVER missed a concert, track meet, football, volleyball or basketball game for nearly 15 years. On the weekends, you could find him at the family’s lake cabin in Storm Lake. He truly loved pulling the kids and their friends on tubes and water skis for hours! Some other hobbies included running, racquet ball, hunting, wrestling officiating, Lions Club, watching any Iowa Hawkeye sporting event, and was always working to beautify his home and yard.

More recently, he and Mary enjoyed traveling and attending concerts. They traveled to many places near and far. Some of their favorites include Spain, Portugal, Aruba, Arizona, Washington, Nashville, California wine country, and Alaska.

Jon is survived by his loving wife, Mary of 31 years; his children K’Lyn (Aaron) Uhl of Norwalk, IA; Daniel (Javen) Wunschel of Mason City, IA; Abby (Drew) Conley of Ankeny, IA; and Angie (Mark) Currie of Van Meter, IA; grandchildren: Addison Uhl, Grant and Brooke Wunschel, Katherine and Dominic Conley, Elliott and Claire Currie; his sister Lynda Perry; sister-in-law Janel Lageschulte; along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Betty Lageschulte and brother Kevin Lageschulte.

“Angie, what a beautiful tribute to your handsome father. We were out on the lake when you shared how his athleticism and farm roots made him the loyal, creative, and devoted Dad that he was...and at the time I thought “and she has all of that herself!” I am so sorry for your loss...the world needs more men like your Dad. God bless you at this sad time.”
