In Memory of Robert S. Spotts

Robert S. Spotts, age 85, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 21, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Pastor Luann Benge will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Friday, May 21, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Robert Samuel Spotts, was born at home on May 3, 1936, in Ida Grove, Iowa, to Ralph Sr. and Ella (Gempler) Spotts. He grew up in Ida Grove and graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1954.

Following graduation, Robert spent four years working in Sioux City, Iowa. He returned home to Ida Grove and Robert along with his brothers established Spotts Brothers Dray and Transfer and Spotts Farms Incorporated.

On June 22, 1958, Robert married Kathryn Sweet. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove and an active member of the Ida Grove community. As a young man Robert played on the town softball team and drove a school bus for the Ida Grove Community School District for 10 years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge lOOF 259 and bowled on the Odd Fellows Lodge bowling team. Robert also served 10 years on the Ida Grove City Council.

After 41 years Robert retired in 1999 and enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, playing cards, and was an avid coin collector. Robert loved watching his grandchildren participate in sports, music, and drama activities.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Kathryn Spotts of Ida Grove, IA; his daughters and their spouses; grandchildren and great grandchildren; extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, and other family members.
