Judith “Judy” Ann (Huss) Lohmeier was born in Royal, Iowa, to Ed and Charlotte Huss on January 7, 1928, on a farm her grandfather had homesteaded.  After completing high school, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she attended business school and began working as a secretary. While in Omaha, she met her husband, Dean Lohmeier, and they were married on June 26, 1948. Over the next few years, Dean’s job relocated them around several cities in the Midwest before they settled in Ida Grove, Iowa, in 1960. Judy worked as a housewife raising their five children and also did sewing from her home for over 55 years. Her last few years were spent living in Omaha to be closer to family.

Judy was very strong in her Catholic faith. She was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and spent many years traveling around the world on pilgrimages. She led a ladies group from church in making rosaries at the local nursing home. Over the years, they produced thousands of rosaries.

She is survived by her children David Lohmeier of Denison, IA, Richard (Janet) Lohmeier of Omaha, NE, Patricia (Jerry) Tipler of Omaha, NE, Daniel Lohmeier of Hutto, TX and Michelle (Brian) Bednar of Ocala, FL.  She also had 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dean Lohmeier; her six siblings; and many extended family members.

“I was sorry to read of Judy Lohmeier's passing. Growing up in Ida Grove, her son Dick was a good friend of mine and we all spent a lot of time at the Lohmeier house. She was a great welcoming host to us all.

“To Judy's Family--
Judy did sewing for my family for years. We always had interesting conversations while she pinned us up. Usually she talked about the rosaries she was making. One of the best Catholics I knew. Prayers of comfort for your family.”

“My Mother [Elnora Lunzman who passed away in 2020 at the age of 94] and I relied on Judy for all of our many sewing needs. She was friendly, helpful, and very reliable. She was the best and I missed her when she left. She surely loved her sewing and that is what kept her going daily. Hello to all the family and especially Dick. Judy had a rich, long, full life and it was good for her to be closer to family her last years of life. Blessings to all of you.”
