Brian Orlyn Schumacher was born on October 19, 1951 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Vahn and Leva (Wessel) Schumacher. Brian grew up in the Battle Creek area and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1969. He served as a medic in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1974. On August 19, 1978 he was united in marriage with Nancy Annear at the United Methodist Church in Ida Grove. Brian worked for Land O' Lakes in Sioux City until his retirement. They made their home in the Ida Grove area for forty years before retiring to Elkhorn, Nebraska.

Brian loved to spend time with his family, whether coaching his kids baseball and softball teams, fishing with Zach and Wendall, or traveling with his kids to watch the NCAA basketball tournament, which often included an overabundance of food and drinks.  He could often be found reading western books into the early morning hours or rearranging the garage - several times a month. He enjoyed playing golf, mostly from the trees and other exotic places, and scrambling eggs for his two fur grandchildren, Thelma and Louise, with whom he often had in depth life discussions with and occasionally cursed at. Above all, Brian delighted in anything that involved his four grandchildren.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Delos Schumacher, and nephew Bradley Schumacher. Survivors include his wife, Nancy, daughter Vanessa of Elkhorn, NE, son Zachary (Tisha) of Webster City, IA, son Samuel (Amanda) of Adel, IA, four adorable grandchildren Wendall, Charlotte, Eloise and Lorelei, brother Darrell (Debra), sister-in-law Jeane Schumacher, and numerous nieces and nephews.
