Diane M. Lampe, the daughter of Patrick, Jr. and Luella (Kurth) Collins, was welcomed into the world on February 1, 1948, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The family relocated to a farm outside of Ida Grove, Iowa, when Diane was the tender age of three years old. She received her education in the Ida Grove School District with the class of 1966.
On May 22, 1976, Diane married her true love Edward “Ed” Lampe in the United Methodist Church of Ida Grove. Ed welcomed bonus daughters Donna and Debbie, who he later adopted in 1977. The family was then blessed to welcome a baby sister Katie.
Over the years you may remember Diane’s quick wit and smile from her years of bar tending at Ida Bowl and the Orchid Club, to managing the laundry at the Morningside Care Center. Diane was known to hold three or more jobs at a time and also worked as a clerk at the local Cenex. She was forced to retire in 2015 due to the onset of health issues. Although she was retired, Diane enjoyed being around people. She loved to travel with Ed, spoiling her grandchildren and taking in a movie. She will be remembered for her famous mouthwatering homemade brownies, compassion and concern for others, strong will and ease of friendship.
Diane would often talk about the days on the farm and how lifting the latch to the cattle gate was difficult for her as a girl. She would share that she had the best brothers, Dennis and Michael, who always came to her aide. On February 15, 2023, Diane waited as her brother Michael Collins lifted the latch and they walked through the gates of heaven together.
Left to cherish her memory are husband Ed Lampe of Ida Grove, IA; daughters Donna (Mike) Treiber of Battle Creek, IA, Debbie (Ken) Venteicher of Castana, IA and Katie (Todd) Sholty of Ida Grove, IA; 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; brother Dennis (Becky) Collins of Ida Grove, IA; sister-in-law Connie Collins of Ida Grove, IA; best friend Kelley Lorenzen of Ida Grove, IA; nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents Patrick, Jr. and Luella Collins; son (in infancy) Nicholas Lampe; great grandson (in infancy) Benjamin Hanna; and brother Michael “Mike” Collins.
