Jacquelyn P. “Jackie” Wunschel, age 81, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa with the Reverend Adam J. Peck & Reverend Richard A. Salcido officiating. Burial will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8 , 2013 at the Christensen ~ Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Jacquelyn P. “Jackie” Wunschel was born February 11, 1932 in Onawa, Iowa to Paul and Nellie (Rolph) Scholes.
In her younger years she was raised on a farm near Blencoe, Iowa. During the war her family relocated to Washington for a year before moving to Arthur, Iowa, where her family ran Scholes Hardware store and she attended high school.
On May 11, 1948 Jackie eloped with Vernus Dean Wunschel and were married in Kansas City, Missouri. The couple made their home in Arthur. Jackie was confirmed in to the Lutheran Faith in Odebolt that same year. The couple was blessed with four children, Don; Vern; Jean; and Mark.
The couple then moved to Battle Creek, Iowa in 1962 and started an auto dealership, Midtown Motors, which they later expanded and moved to Ida Grove along with their family.
Jackie helped by keeping books, and occasionally driving a truck for their family business, until 1986. In 1990 Jackie started Nellie Anna’s Gift Shop in Ida Grove, which she ran until her stroke in October of 2012.
Jackie was very musically talented and played the harp, organ, and trumpet. She also loved to travel and went to China, Mexico, Spain and Hawaii. Jackie enjoyed staying in her cottage in Lake View during the summer months, along with crocheting, blankets; doilies; and hot pads; playing cards; and loved to play competitive games.
Jackie was very proud of her heritage and she enjoyed creating a family tree to follow her ancestry throughout the years.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Don (Peggy) Wunschel of Ida Grove; Vern (Jan) Wunschel of Ida Grove; Jean (Charlie) Rohlf of Ida Grove; Mark (Theresa) Wunschel of Ida Grove; 12 grandchildren, Kriss (Pat) Phillips; Matt (Chris) Wunschel; Donavon (Chris) Wunschel; Aaron Wunschel; Amber (Jed) Swanger; Adam (Sarah) Wunschel; Cole Wunschel; Andi (John) O’Connor; Brandi (Chad) Sharkey; Danny ( Fiancé Javen) Wunschel; Aaron (April) Mahr; and Sarah (Michael) Billigmeier; and 22 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way; 1 great-great grandchild, sister, Ruthie (John) Tollakson of Sheridan, Wyoming; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernus Wunschel, parents-in-law Louis and Marie Wunschel, and son-in-law Mark Friedrichsen.

So very sad to hear of the loss of your Mother. She was such a sweet lady, always a kind greeting when we saw her, such a "classy lady". It is hard to lose a loved one, especially a loving Mother but we also know she is now resting happily in the Arms of our loving Lord and Savior and suffers no more. We will miss her but we also know, in Gary Thies's famous words, "we will see her again later." God Bless you and your family and may He grant you His eternal peace.
