Carol Ione McCall was born on February 26, 1941, on a wheat farm near Stockton, Kansas, to Leonard F. and Maude (Fisk) Bartlett. She grew up on the farm helping her dad raise wheat, and tending to the cattle and chickens. She lost her mother at a young age so her sister and aunts helped her dad guide her along her way making her the woman we all knew and loved.
Carol met and married Norris McCall. In December 1965, Carol and Norris made the big decision to move to Iowa with a three-year-old in tow and a baby on the way. Odebolt, Iowa, was called home for the next 59 years. Here they made lots of friends and truly enjoyed their life together.
Over the years Carol worked as a waitress, a fry cook, nurses’ aid, babysitter, and bartender. Her favorite job was working for Hemer Plumbing and Heating where she was treated like family.
Carol enjoyed tending to her kids and the occasional neighbor kid or two, growing her African Violets, tending to her garden, reading, and going with Norris in the semi. She got to spend time with him and see different parts of the country. Two of the best days in her life was when she became a grandma. Being a grandma was a very special part of her life.
Left to cherish her memory include her daughter Lisa (Wes) Petersen of Lawton, IA and her son Norris Lenn McCall of Odebolt, IA; grandchildren Brad Petersen of Lawton, IA and Lynne Petersen (Yee Chan) of Sioux City, IA; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norris McCall; parents Leonard and Maude (Fisk) Bartlett; sisters Wilma Bartlett, Jeanine Richardson, and Bethel Maddox.
