Sharon Kay Gross was born on January 9, 1942 to Delas and LaVerne (Mildenstein) Lynch in Battle Creek, Iowa. One of three children born to the couple, Sharon was raised on the family farm outside of Battle Creek.

She was baptized in to the Lutheran faith at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, and then confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. She attended country school and then attended Battle Creek High School and later obtained her General Education Degree in Ida Grove. In High School she met and then married Ronald Bockelmann at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Battle Creek in 1959.

To this union four children were born, Jackie, Jody, Jason, and Joel.  The family farmed and lived North of Battle Creek, until a tragic car accident took Ronald and Joel’s lives. Sharon then met Vernon Susie and the couple wed on July 30, 1971; to this union a son was born Brett Susie. The family  then moved into town and made their home.

Sharon started working outside the home taking a position at VT Industries in 1978 were she met Eugene Gross. The couple married on October 4, 1980. Sharon worked off and on at VT Industries for eight years in the door’s department before retiring. Eugene and Sharon made their home in Battle Creek. Sharon was an active member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church and also served as church secretary for two years, and briefly sold Avon cosmetics.

Sharon had a strong faith, she was a member of the Mary’s ladies circle at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Sharon enjoyed playing cards, and had belonged to a local card club in Battle Creek.

Sharon’s real love was her family, which she cherished and loved. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as she watched them grow. Sharon had a true talent for cooking and will be remembered for her delightful apple crisp, strawberry pretzel desert, and of course the wacky cake.

Left to cherish Sharon’s memory are her loving husband Eugene Gross of Battle Creek, IA, her 3 children Jackie (Randy) Mefferd of Sloan, IA, Jason (Lisa) Bockelmann of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Brett (Lynne) Susie of Neola, IA, son-in-law, Johnny Nash of Sioux City, IA, 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, brother, Tom Lynch of Cushing, IA, Sister, Shirley Aduddell of Cherokee, IA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, family and friends.
