Steven Robert Miller, the son of Robert and LaDonna (Gehring) Miller, was born on June 14, 1963, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, while his father was serving in the U.S. Army Security Agency. Shortly after his birth, Steve was baptized into the Catholic faith there. When he was six months old, he traveled with his mother to Okinawa, Japan, to join his father during his military assignment, where the family lived for a year and a half. Steve later spent his childhood and teen years growing up in Odebolt, Iowa.
Prior to his passing, Steve worked for Interstate Rest Area Maintenance (formerly known as Velociti) for six years and spent seven summers as an employee with RAGBRAI. He had a deep love for outdoor work and never hesitated to lend a hand, whether it involved yard work, farm chores, or any physical labor. In the summer, Steve also assisted his son Dillon with his lawn care business, which he considered his favorite job of all.
Steve had a lifelong passion for music and learned to play both the piano and drums during his youth. Music remained an important part of his life, and his trademark air drumming was something many came to know and love. Some of his favorite bands to listen to included Motley Crue, Slipknot, and Kiss amongst others. He was also a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan who enjoyed watching games with his family and attending them whenever he could. Steve was well known for his great sense of humor and his ability to bring laughter and light to those around him. Above all else, he cherished his family—especially his children and grandchildren—who truly meant the world to him.
Survivors include his significant other Angela Chrestensen of Onawa, IA; mother LaDonna Miller of Odebolt, IA; children Dereck Meyer of Omaha, NE, Dillon Miller (Alyssa Boyd) of Denison, IA and Lindsey (Colby) Farmen of Sioux Falls, SD; stepchildren Dylan Wilson (fiancée Kayla Thompson) of South Carolina and Levi Wilson (Kenzie Watson) of Whiting, IA; grandchildren Aliyah, Tyree, Myah, Deon, Daejah, Ayla, William, Lainey, Charlotte, Lily, Liam, Elena, Weston, and Wyatt Steven (on the way); sister Staci (Ronnie) Olson of Avoca, IA; uncles Delayne Gehring of Madera, CA and Jim (Clara) Miller of Sioux Falls, SD; aunt Judy Miller of Altoona, WI; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by father Robert Miller; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and other extended family members.
