Gene H. Carlin, age 69, of Battle Creek, Iowa passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Chuck Brocka will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Maple Valley Post No. 364 of the American Legion both of Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Gene Howard Carlin was born on May 5, 1945 to William and Nina Marie (Luck) Carlin. Gene grew up in New Harford and moved to Santa Anna California in the 10thgrade where he graduated in 1963.
Gene married Marilyn Purvis June 24, 1975 in Las Vegas Nevada. To this union four children were born, Shawn, Jason, Kimberly and Seth.
Gene served in the Navy for 6 years and traveled the world with the Air Force for 17 years before moving to Hastings Nebraska in 2006. From there he moved to Battle Creek, Iowa in 2013. Gene was a member of the Heartland Baptist Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. He was a self-employed long distance truck driver who enjoyed woodworking, history and baseball.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Marilyn Carlin of Battle Creek, Iowa; children, Shawn Carlin of Battle Creek, Iowa; Jason (Denise) Carlin of Battle Creek, Iowa; Kimberly Carlin of Battle Creek, Iowa; and Seth (Cheryl) Carlin of Matthews, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; and family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
