Jolene Elaine Hoefling was born on January 7, 1944, in Battle Creek, Iowa to Hugo and Gertrude (Backhaus) Ernst.
Jolene grew up on the family farm in the Schleswig, Iowa area. She attended country school at Schleswig country school, and graduated from Schleswig High School 1962.
Jolene was united into marriage to John Hoefling on July 7, 1962, at the St. Martin’s Catholic Church of Odebolt, Iowa. To this union two boys were born, Mark and Rod.
Their family made their home on a farm near Odebolt, Iowa where they farmed before moving into town. Some of you might remember Jolene as the friendly cook at the local school, a team truck driver with her husband John over the road and your local delivery person for meals on wheels.
Along with her cheery disposition and outgoing personality, her smile always lit up a room. Jolene enjoyed bowling, gardening and cooking just to name a few.
Jolene cherished her family more than anything and love attending her grandchildren’s events, especially a good ball game with a bag of popcorn.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Mark (Julie) Hoefling of Odebolt, Iowa; Rod (Krista) Hoefling of Odebolt, Iowa; six grandchildren and two great-grandchild; sisters, Norma Lyman of Grand Junction, Colorado; Bernadine Kragel of Schleswig, Iowa and Marlene Harper and Jim of New London, Iowa; two brothers, Charles (Traudl) Ernst of Roxboro, North Carolina and Hugo (Cynthia) Ernst, Jr. of Grand Junction, Colorado; brother-in-law, Douglas (Linda) Hoefling of Galesburg, Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Hoefling; parents, Hugo and Gertrude Ernst; two brother-in-laws, Gerald Lyman and Paul Kragel.
