“You don't always have to go through the bad to get to the good, but until you have known the bad, you won't fully understand the good. The main thing is to be courageous and open to the full spectrum of life.
Until we meet again cousin. Love Rick”

“We met Joe for the first time when we were invited to go on vacation with Pippa, Randy, Emily and Erin at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Joe, Paula and Tom welcomed us to share the beach house with them all. We had so much fun!!! The memories of that vacation will stay with us forever! And you know what, Joe? Dar still says that the girls in bikinis on the beach were pointing and waving at you two instead of the dolphins in the water behind you guys! We will miss you Joe!”

“You always knew how to have fun! We had a lot of good times on vacations and any other time we were together. You taught us a lot. I will never forget you trying to teach Emily and I how to play Sudoku in a hotel room at probably midnight. I think you tried almost every time you saw us to teach us how to juggle, but I still can't get it down! You were always there with no argument whenever I needed help. I always knew who to come to if Mom and Dad said no to me when you were with us! Although it's hard to accept that you're gone already, I'm very grateful for all of the great memories we were able to make with you. I'm thankful that you are no longer suffering, and I bet you're having great times with the rest of the family up in heaven! We love you! ”

“If you didn't already know that Joe was an amazing person, reading all the beautiful tributes to him here illustrate what we, his friends and family, have always known. Joe was the kindest, gentlest, most caring person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing--and I feel extremely proud and lucky to say that he was my brother! He taught us all so much. The grace and courage with which he fought his disease amazed me daily. He is now free of the pain and suffering. Love you always, Joe! ”

“Thank you so much to Joe's family for taking such good care of him. Of course, who Joe was already spoke so much about his family and where he came from. Joe made friends everywhere he went. He had all the best qualities you might find in a friend - he was loyal, generous, consistent, patient, honest, positive, adventurous and always helpful to anyone who needed it. Joe was also persistent and ultimately successful at becoming excellent at anything he set his mind to do. I've heard it said that there are only two things worth doing in life - having fun and making the world a better place. Joe was a role model in doing each of those things. Rest in peace, my friend. ”

“It was a privilege to know Joe. I can remember taking him to bingo. Joe loved the game. He helped me play it as Bingo has really changed from what I remember. Joe also liked scratch offs and the lottery. I'm sure he is at peace now and playing those games in heaven. My condolences go out to the family. May God give you peace at this difficult time.”

“Joe was a colleague and friend of mine and many others. To his family, he made it known how proud he was of you and from where he grew up. He adored his roots which is a strong testament to the family. I wish I knew you all. Joe always eager to help with ANYTHING. Joe's character is truly an example to which families, communities, states and even nations should aspire. Joe was a great mentor and friend. My sorrow is for our loss of such a soul. My happiness is that he came into our lives. My prayers continue to be with all who were lucky enough to have known him. His mark on us is wonderful and permanent.”

“Joe was our friend. A very good friend, a hard working friend, and a friend who possessed many talents (UNIX is not easy!). And Joe loved his obscure progressive rock bands. Rose and I (along with Joe's good friend Tim Kilduff) loved sharing those special listening moments with Joe and we're pretty sure Joe is up there grooving to more obscure tunes right now!
A Toast to Joe and his Spirit! A one of a kind friend in all of the best ways!”

“To my girlfriend Paula,

I witnessed the love, energy, research, friendship, anguish, and total devotion you gave to your brother; all whole-heartedly. Kuddos to your wonderful husband Tom for being there by your side. He was not only a brother-in-law, he was a best friend. I know he will be greatly missed by the two of you. My regret is I did not get to really know him. Much love. Lynne”
