Mary E. Hansen, age 72, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Methodist Hospital of Omaha, Nebraska.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Father Richard D. Ball will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 5:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. all held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Christensen ~ Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online to www.christensenvanhouten.com.
 

Mary E. Hansen was born on May 24, 1942 in Park Falls, Wisconsin, to Francis and Ruby Pyykola. Mary attended and graduated from Park Falls High School in 1960.

After school Mary moved to Milwaukee. While in Milwaukee Mary met Wayne Hansen, the couple were united into marriage on June 19, 1969. They were later blessed with three children; Kevin, Kim, and Kyle.

The family moved to Ida Grove, Iowa in 1975. While raising her family, Mary also worked at the Medical Arts Building for Dr. John Sinnott as a Medical Transcriptionist for 30 years before retiring.

Mary will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and compassionate, friend, wife, and mother. She never missed a birthday card or an anniversary card. She was always thinking of others around her. Mary enjoyed; golfing, reading, euchre, casino trips, playing bingo, spending time with her grandchildren and family, shopping, and loved watching her daily stories on television.

In her spare time she volunteered at the Horn Memorial Auxiliary gift shop, and the Horn Memorial Hospital Bazaar.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 45 years, Wayne Hansen of Ida Grove, Iowa; children, Kevin (Karmen) Hansen of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Kim (Jeremy) Schultz of Bloomington, Minnesota; Kyle (Bonita) Hansen of Ida Grove, Iowa; five grandchildren: Erica, Tyler, Austin, Dylan and Palmer; three brothers, Frank (Joyce) Pyykola of Carlyle, Illinois; Don (Lu) Pyykola of Cambridge, Minnesota; Bob Pyykola of Hayward, Wisconsin; and many extended family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Ruby Pyykola; and brother, Jerry Pyykola.
