A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Father Richard D. Ball will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., a rosary service held at 5:00 p.m. and a vigil service held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Dorothy Ann Petersen was born on April 17, 1920 in Danbury, Iowa, to Pete and Ann (Voss) Meier. She grew up on a farm near Danbury, Iowa and attended Danbury Catholic School.
Dorothy was united into marriage to Anton “Tony” Petersen on January 11, 1937 in Holstein, Iowa. The couple made their home in Battle Creek, Iowa and were blessed with four children: Bonnie, Janice, Jim, and Anita.
Dorothy was a devoted wife and stay at home mother who took great pride in her children, grand-children, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, visiting, and Sunday morning trips to the casino with her son Jim, sewing and making quilts, and the annual Petersen picnic. Dorothy was a great cook and loved keeping everyone well fed.
In her later years, Dorothy enjoyed traveling. She traveled to Australia, Hawaii, Switzerland, Alaska, and cruised the Caribbean.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Bonnie (Bill) Weber of Peoria, Arizona; Anita (Jim) Reitz of Seneca, Kansas; son-in-law, Jim Druivenga of Battle Creek, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Sheila Petersen of Battle Creek, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Audrey Meier of Battle Creek, Iowa; and extended family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Anton “Tony” Petersen; daughter, Janice Druivenga; son, Jim Petersen; three brothers: Bill Meier, Wayne Meier, and one brother in infancy; grandson, Brian Druivenga; and great grandchildren, Emily and Colby Hammes.
