Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church, of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Reverend Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Committal Services will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, of Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Battle Creek, Iowa. Geraldine “Jeri” Ann Schrader was born on May 1, 1934, at her home in Sioux City, Iowa, to William and Martha (Gorseth) King.
Jeri attended Sioux City public schools prior to entering nursing school. She was employed at Sioux City Battery as a welder.
Jeri attended Mercendian School of Practical Nursing in Marshalltown, Iowa, from 1956-1957. Jeri took an additional 6 month course in OB & surgery. Jeri worked as a nurse at Lutheran Hospital of Sioux City, Iowa for 13 years.
Jeri met her husband John “Jack” Schrader while he was a patient and later when Jack’s parents were patients at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Jeri and Jack were united into marriage on April 12, 1971 and they made their home in Battle Creek, Iowa, where Jack was engaged in farming. Jeri and Jack were blessed with a daughter, Lori Martha.
Jeri became a stay at home mother to Lori and a farm wife to Jack. In 2001 Jeri relocated to Ankeny, Iowa to live with her daughter Lori and family.
Jeri enjoyed ceramics, counted cross stitch, cookbooks, reading and her precious grandchildren JJ and Naomi.
Jeri was a 40 year member of First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa.
Jeri was preceded in death by her husband, Jack (2001); her parents; sisters, Naoma and twins Josephine and Patricia; brothers and their spouses: William (Edna), Richard (Barbara), Ernest, Donald, and Charles (Tena).
Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughter, Lori (Steve) SchraderBachar of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, JJ and Naomi SchraderBachar of Ankeny, Iowa; sister, Darlene (Harlan) Dirks of Toledo, Iowa; sister-in-law, Phyllis Schrader of Ida Grove, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins; extended family members John Grant, April Grant and their families.
Memorials can be directed to the Battle Creek Library of Battle Creek, Iowa, in Jeri’s memory.
