Born February 27, 1935 in Emerson, Manitoba, Canada. Dorothy was the daughter of Gertrude and Anton Fischer.  She grew up with her brother Harry and sister Millie in Emerson and eventually moved to Winnipeg where she completed her education. As a graduate from the teacher’s college she started teaching students in a one room school house in Plum Coulee, Manitoba.

On July 8th 1955, Dorothy was united into marriage with Robert(Bob) Carstens of Battle Creek, IA. In their 60 years of marriage they were blessed with five children, Terry, Jim, Brian, Barb and Rob.  They lived in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin before settling at Venture Out in Mesa. Dorothy was a member of the German and creative writing clubs. Bob’s favorite activity is driving around the park to visit with anyone. Together they enjoyed going out with the Lunch Bunch and playing Bingo.

We will all remember how she kept in touch with everyone with letters and cards. “I am beyond words on learning about the passing of one of my oldest and dearest friends, Dort.
We met in Winnipeg shortly after the family had moved to Winnipeg. I can remember the day she walked past our house and I invited her to church. We were inseparable and also were in the same high school graduating class.
I remember Dorothy as a beautiful, kind, gentle and loving soul and I am so grateful that I could call her my friend.
Cherish the memories - death does not end a relationship because love never dies.
My heartfelt sympathy to Bob and Family.
Rest well, dear friend and until we meet again, Auf Wiedersehn.

“I am a friend of Rob's, having worked with him at Slumberland Furniture. He spoke so often of his family & especially the close bond he had with his mother. My sympathy is extended to all of the family, in this very sad time. Having just lost my mom, 2 years ago, I know of the pain that he & his siblings feel. However, all of the special memories, each of you have shared, will keep her close to you for all the days of your lives. Knowing she is with God & all the family that preceded her, will give you some measure of peace.”
