Ronald D. Bloom was born on January 5, 1930, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Anvey and Hilma (Johnson) Bloom. The family farmed in the Ida County area for a year before moving to a farm northeast of Arthur, Iowa in 1931. Ron attended Blaine Township country school through the fourth grade. After fourth grade he attended school in Arthur and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1948.

Following high school, Ron assisted an area farmer before enlisting into the United States Air Force in July of 1951. He was stationed in Springfield, Massachusetts and Iceland before being honorably discharged in July of 1955.

Ron returned home to live with his father in Odebolt, Iowa. Ron started working for Adam’s Ranch cow/calf operation, where he later became a foreman for 10 years.

Ron entered into marriage to Barbara Jean Kyle in the United Methodist Church of Greene, Iowa on December 29, 1957. The couple made their home in Odebolt, Iowa, and were blessed with two children, Jeff and Karen. The family resided in Odebolt for 10 years             before relocating to the family farm west of Wall Lake, Iowa in 1966.

Ron was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Odebolt, Iowa. He served on the Odebolt Farmer’s Elevator Coop’s Board of Directors from 1986 to 1989.

Ron had a passion for farming and everything related to it. He was a people person with the ability to remember dates, places, and faces. Never knowing a stranger, Ron had the gift to converse with anyone around him.  He enjoyed his annual trips to the Clay County Fair. His true treasure in life were his family and the farm.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Tori Renee Green.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Barb Bloom of Wall Lake, IA; children, Jeff (Jill) Bloom of Portland, OR, Karen (Marty) Morrow of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda Bloom of Portland, OR, and Joe Green of Cedar Rapids, IA.

“May this dear family draw comfort from the many friends that you have. This lost will take time to heal but by reading this promise made by our heavenly Father in Revelation 21:3-5 the pain will not be as bad. (jw.org)”
